Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 28) The Roanoke Dazzle defeated the Charleston Lowgators 97-82 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night. Josh Asselin and Mikki Moore had 17 points to lead five Dazzle players in double-digits.
After a seesaw battle in the first period, the Dazzle outscored the Lowgators 22-6 in the second quarter and never looked back. Charleston shot 2 of 22 from the field and was 2 for 9 from the free-throw line in the period.
"The second quarter was the difference in the game. I thought we played good defense and we got some momentum that carried over to the third quarter. I knew (Charleston) would not give up though. Coach Marty and Upshaw made sure they didn't give up," said Roanoke head coach Kent Davison.
The Lowgators did mount a solid effort in the second half outscoring the Dazzle 51-47 after intermission. Down by as many as 28, Charleston cut the deficit to 10 with 1:25 remaining in the game but ran out of time down the stretch.
Charleston head coach Doug Marty said, "I was proud of the way we came back and did not give up. We struggled in the second quarter with our defensive intensity but we were much more aggressive in the second half." All five starters for the Dazzle reached double figures. Along with Asselin and Moore, George Williams had 15, Marque Perry scored 14 and Mike King chipped in with 10.
