Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va., July 10, 2002 – The Roanoke Dazzle will play its second season in the National Basketball Development League with an attractive home schedule that includes 13 weekend dates and two other games on holidays.

Coach Kent Davison's team will open the NBA minor league's season on Friday, November 15, when the Huntsville Flight visits the Roanoke Civic Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff. That is the first of three consecutive home dates for the Dazzle, which plays 15 of its 25 home games on weekends or holidays – including nine Saturday dates.

"We are pleased with our schedule for the upcoming season," Dazzle Team President Joe Preseren said. "It is very fan-friendly, with 60 percent of our games on weekends and holidays. Increasing the overall number of weekend dates was a top priority for the NBDL in creating this season's schedule."

The Dazzle follows its opener with home dates November 16 and 19 against Fayetteville and Asheville, respectively, before the team begins a four-game, eight-day road trip. Roanoke also has five home dates against defending NBDL champion Greenville, including Roanoke's two Sunday afternoon home dates (January 19 and March 16). The first Groove-Dazzle meeting is Saturday, November 30.

The Dazzle has holiday home games on New Year's Day (Columbus, at 7 p.m.) and a Presidents' Day afternoon date on Monday, February 17 against Fayetteville, a 4 o'clock tipoff.

The nine Saturday home games also include two 1 p.m. starts in day-night Civic Center basketball/hockey doubleheaders. On January 4 (Asheville) and February 22 (Huntsville), the Dazzle will play afternoon games, and then the arena will be converted for Roanoke Express hockey games those nights.

All Dazzle home night games will have a 7 o'clock tipoff this season.

Roanoke finishes the 50-game regular season with home games on consecutive weekend nights – Friday, March 21 against Asheville and the next evening against Mobile.

Fans can purchase season ticket packages for home games by calling the Dazzle at (540) 266-1000. Season packages are discounted from the single-game price ranges of $10, $16 and $30 (with additional reductions for children's seats). The Dazzle has full- and partial-season plans and flex books on sale. An announcement on single-game ticket sales will follow in coming months.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Dazzle, Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.). The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eight NBDL players and one head coach were called up to the NBA during the NBDL's inaugural season and five executives have moved from NBDL teams to positions with major league organizations. Designed to help grow the sport of basketball domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams, and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions in each NBDL city.
