Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. – Matt Carroll and Terrence Shannon tallied 26 points a piece driving the Dazzle (10-6) to a 124-101 victory over the Florida Flame (3-13) Wednesday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. The 124 points ties the Dazzle record for most points earned in a game this season.

The Flame fought a good fight in the first quarter leading the Dazzle by three at the end of the quarter. As Roanoke's big men Kevin Owens and Sean Finn found themselves in early foul trouble with three a piece, Terrence Shannon stepped up with 10 rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season.

"We played well the first nine minutes," said Florida Head Coach Dennis Johnson. "We got their big men in trouble and they went to a smaller line up. Our guys couldn't keep anyone in front of them."

Roanoke took control in the second quarter as Sherman Gay led an explosive response to Florida's strong start posting 12 points. Sung-Yoon Bang poured in another 7 giving the Dazzle to a 16 point advantage going into the third. Roanoke never looked back.

"The last time we played them they went into the zone. Tonight I told them they needed to start attacking," said Dazzle Coach Kent Davison. "When you have guys who can shoot like Matt and Bang you can spread their defense out."

In the second half Roanoke's offense continued to dominate as they put up 36 points in the third quarter and topping the night off with another 25 in the fourth. Roanoke never relinquished less than a 20 point lead throughout the second half.

Despite Florida being hampered by poor shooting the final results found five players in double digit scoring. Carl English led the Flame with 26 points, Kirk Haston had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds with Darius Rice matching another 16. Florida's newest addition Smush Parker posted 14 along with Byron Mouton.

Roanoke and Florida meet again Friday, January 14 at the Roanoke Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com.
