Dazzle gearing up for 4th annual summer basketball school

Roanoke, Va., July 8 Head Coach Kent Davison is gearing up to start the 4th Annual Camp Dazzle Basketball School presented by Taco Bell. With 31 years of coaching experience, Davison will work with boys and girls from throughout the Roanoke Valley to develop their offensive and defensive skills, as well as team games.

Russell Turner, a Roanoke native and currently the Golden State Warriors assistant coach, will be making a guest appearance at this year's Camp Dazzle for boys. Turner, a Hampden-Sydney alumnus, was a two-time All-American (1991-92), set the school's all-time scoring record with 2,272 points, and was the runner-up for the NCAA Division III Player of the Year Award in 1992. Prior to coaching at Golden State, Turner helped coach future NBA players Tim Duncan, Josh Howard and Darius Songaila.

Presenting sponsor of Camp Dazzle, Taco Bell, will be giving away a Taco Bell prize pack to one lucky camper this summer. One winner will be selected out of both camps and will receive the following: two Roanoke Dazzle Season Tickets, $500 cash, four Virginia Tech basketball tickets (game to be determined), and other Taco Bell prizes!

Camp Dazzle will be held in the Roanoke Civic Center, where all Dazzle home games are played, for boys and girls ages 7 to 15. Girls' camp will run July 17- 21 and boys' camp will run July 31-August 4. Registration is $150 per camper, and applications can be found on www.roanokedazzle.com.

The NBDL, the NBA's Development League, will tip off its fifth season in November 2005. The league includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), as well as Albuquerque (N.M.), Tulsa (Okla.) and Austin and Fort Worth (Texas).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Ten (10) former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001. Six additional front office executives have earned positions with other major league sports.
