Roanoke Dazzle News Release

Roanoke, Va., (April 10) - The Charleston Lowgators outlasted the Roanoke Dazzle 103-99 in tonight's NBDL action.

With the loss Roanoke finds itself the odd man out of the NBDL playoffs. The Dazzle got what they needed out of Asheville, an Altitude 122-113 win over Fayetteville but could not capitalize. Roanoke finishes the season 20-26 and in fifth place. Charleston (27-19), winners of their last three, will host the Huntsville Flight in the first round of the NBDL Delta Airlines Postseason Classic.

Charleston led by as many as 16 in the first quarter and took a 58-48 lead into the half. Charleston head coach Doug Marty liked the way his team started. "We shot the ball well from the field and only had 3 turnovers in the first half. They really pressured us hard in the second half. That gave us problems."

After hanging around trailing by single digits for most of the second half, Roanoke made its move late in the final period. A Josh Asselin field goal with 2:13 left pulled the Dazzle within two at 96-94. The Lowgators iced the game in the final minute converting 4 of 4 free throw attempts.

Charleston was led by Ime Udoka's 24 points. Alpha Bangura added 21.

The Dazzle finished the season losing 10 straight games. Roanoke head coach Kent Davison was disappointed with the finish to the season. "I hate to have it end in that way but we had some good callups, guys that stuck in the NBA. We were the only team in the league to beat a college team. There were some real positive things." The Dazzle was led by All-NBDL first team selection Josh Asselin with 24. Fellow first team player Marque Perry chipped in 17 points and five assists.
