Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va., Feb. 18 - Will Bynum put up a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists to lead the Roanoke Dazzle to a 112-105 victory over the visiting Florida Flame at the Roanoke Civic Center
The Dazzle, who spent most of the last two days stranded in various airports, came out sluggish in the first quarter allowing the Flame to open the game with a 16-2 run. Bracey Wright scored eight of his game-high 33 points in the first quarter, leading the Flame to a 28-17 lead.
In the second quarter it was the Dazzle bench led by D'or Fischer and Kevin Owens that awoke and started the Dazzle rally. Fischer had 12 points in the quarter on array of put-backs and dunks while Owens chipped in with eight points in the quarter. At the end of the half the Flame lead had been cut to five points at 53-48.
The second half would be a back and forth battle featuring nine ties and five lead changes.
The Dazzle were able to grab the lead for good when Bynum found a cutting Anthony Grundy for a lay-up at the 2:11 mark in the fourth quarter. Grundy then made a three-point play on a lay-up plus one free-throw to ice the victory for the Dazzle and make the final score 112-105.
"You talk about a gusty performance." Said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "For those guys to play with that kind of heart and never-say die attitude, I am so proud of them."
For the game the Dazzle had six players score in double figures led by Bynum's 22. Fischer had 17 points along with a team-high nine rebounds, Peter Ramos also had 17, Isiah Victor had 13 while Owens had 12 and Grundy also had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Flame Head Coach Jeff Malone was disappointed with his team's loss saying "We didn't tough it out and make enough plays down the stretch. We'll regroup, and go home for four straight games."
The Flame had their entire starting five reach double figures for the game with Wright leading the way with his 33 points. Andre Barrett had 17, Duane Erwin had a double-double with 15 points to go with a game-high 11 rebounds, Austin Nichols had 14 and Theron Smith chipped in with 13.
With the win the Dazzle improve 15-16 on the season and have won their last two games. The Dazzle will next fly out west to play a pair of games against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds next Friday and Saturday.
The loss drops the Flame to 20-12 on the season. The Flame will head home to host the Fort Worth Flyers at the Germain Arena on Thursday night.
