Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. – Sung-Yoon Bang scored a career high 28 points off the bench, as the Dazzle defeated first place Columbus 116-90 in Wednesday's NBDL action at the Roanoke Civic Center. Columbus (15-7), the number one defense in the NBDL previously allowing 85.1 points per game, let the Dazzle (13-9) take 61 points in the second half alone.

The Dazzle took the lead after Sherman Gay's lay-up with 6:10 left in the first quarter, never looking back. They stretched the lead to 26 half way through the fourth with a Bang jumper.

Bang, the second Korean player to compete in a professional US basketball league shot 67% from the field. Matt Carroll, ranked second in NBDL scoring, posted 25 points, while Isiah Victor poured in 18. Sherman Gay contributed another 14, while Cory Alexander had an unselfish 10. This impressive combined effort forced Columbus to give up a season high 116, surpassing the previous 102.

"We have ten guys that we want to play," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "Tonight they came out with a lot of energy and were enthusiastic about each other's play. We played maybe as well as we've played all year."

With the worst loss of the Columbus season previously by 8 points to Asheville on Jan. 22, the Dazzle looked to take advantage of the Riverdragons recent player departures. "We've lost a lot of confidence," said Head Coach Jeff Malone. "There's some great guys here but I don't think they can get it done."

Kevin Braswell led the Riverdragons efforts with 20 points, followed by Kitwana Rhymer with 14 both off the bench. The Dragons starters, Scott Merritt and Mike Benton both finished with 13.

Roanoke takes on the Asheville Altitude, January 29 at the Roanoke Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. Columbus returns home to face the Huntsville Flight on Friday, January 28. Game time 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com.
