Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va., December 28 â The Roanoke Dazzle, the Rescue Mission of Roanoke, 108 WYYD, and the Roanoke Civic Center partnered last Thursday, December 23, to collect donations for those in need. The Dazzle offered fans a free ticket to their game against the Huntsville Flight Thursday evening in exchange for any single item, which included nonperishable foods, clothing, and toys.
Fans responded enthusiastically, most bringing in much more than what was required. The Rescue Mission reported that there were over 4 pallets filled of gifts from Dazzle fans, a number that greatly surpassed anyone's expectations. With a turnout of 1,849, at least two-thirds of the crowd donated. "I was ecstatic how the night went," said Dazzle President Dennis Robarge. "To see our fans step up like they did to help those less fortunate during the holiday season was just amazing. The Dazzle would like to thank everyone who came out that night and donated."
The Rescue Mission of Roanoke has a 56-year legacy that has provided shelter, meals, free medical care, clothing and furniture assistance, and recovery programs for men and women. These donations will allow them to continue their support to the area's needy.
"We are so grateful to the Roanoke Dazzle for their support of the Rescue Mission" said Lee Clark, Director of Development at the Rescue Mission. "This year, we will provide over 280,000 meals for homeless and hungry men, women and children. The fans of Roanoke Dazzle are helping make this daunting job a bit easier with their donation of four pallets of food for hurting people. Our thanks go out to the entire community for their support."
Right before tip off, Coach Davison and the Dazzle players announced to the fans that they had a huge box of clothes and blankets that would be included with the donations. The crowd reacted accordingly. "It's the local Rescue Mission," said Dazzle season ticket holder Randy Brooks. "I just wanted to help the local kids. My son and I brought a couple of blankets and hopefully they'll keep someone warm."
The Dazzle return home on January 1 to bring in the New Year's on the right foot as they battle the Florida Flame. The fourth-placed Dazzle will be looking to avenge an early-season loss to the 1-9 Flame. Tip-off is at 7:00 at the Roanoke Civic Center.
