
Riverdragons To Showcase 'Basketball & Bowl Games' On New Year's Day

COLUMBUS, Ga., December 28 â The Columbus Riverdragons are inviting sports fans from across the Chattahoochee Valley to join them for "Basketball & Bowl Games" at their New Year's Day home game against the Fayetteville Patriots this Saturday. Tip-off is 6:00 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center.
The Riverdragons will furnish a courtside, big screen TV to allow fans to catch all the action of their favorite college football bowl game while enjoying the excitement of Riverdragons basketball. Plus, all fans who wear gear representing their favorite college football team will receive $3 off a regular priced ticket at the Columbus Civic Center box office prior to the game.
"As an organization we continue to strive to provide great sports entertainment," said Riverdragons team president J. Barry McMullin. "All season long we have said âMore than great basketball', and Saturday's game will be a perfect example, as sports fans will see great basketball and the best in college football all in one place."
Tickets for the Riverdragons' "Basketball & Bowl Games" are available at the Columbus Civic Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, including Publix Supermarkets, online at Ticketmaster.com, or by calling 1-800-4-NBA-TIX.
Columbus will attempt to run its team record home winning streak to eight games in a row against Fayetteville on Saturday. The last time the Riverdragons lost on their home floor was April 10, 2004 in a 100-92 defeat against Huntsville on the final day of the 2003-04 NBDL regular season.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Twenty-nine (29) players have been called up the NBA on 40 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
