PRE-GAME NOTES

HOME, SWEET HOME: After running out of time in Sunday's 48-46 loss to the CV Vipers, the Daytona Beach Thunder makes its Ocean Center debut against the Raleigh Rebels. Opening night festivities include an appearance by former wrestling great Kevin Nash and a post-game concert by Southern rock legends Molly Hatchet.

MEET THE COACHES

STEVEN G. FOLMAR: He comes to the Rebels from the Central Valley Coyotes of the arena football league 2, located in Fresno, California. While in Fresno, Folmar helped the Coyotes rebound from a 3-13 season to an 8-8 record while narrowly missing the playoffs. His defense finished the season third in fumble recoveries and in the top five in the league in sacks. Also being the special teams coordinator, Folmar's group had the number one field goal percentage in the league with the second best field goal return average.

ERVIN BRYSON : He is in his fourth season of indoor football with a career coaching mark of 17-15. He was head coach for Winston-Salem, interim head coach at Sioux City and led the Daytona Beach 2005 NIFL team to a 7-3 mark. A native of Abbeville, South Carolina, Bryson was 2002 NIFL coach of the year.

LAST WEEK

REBELS 69, GHOSTRIDERS 38

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Lavell Bailey scored four touchdowns as the Raleigh Rebels downed the Carolina Ghostriders in their first-ever home game. Both teams spent the AIFL's inaugural season as travel teams. Bailey caught three of David Molino's four touchdown passes and ran one in from 12-yards out as the Rebels extended the Ghostriders' losing streak to 12.

Samm Henderson and Montrail Pittman each added two scores. Leading 30-14 at halftime, Raleigh pulled away with a 27-9 third quarter that featured numerous big plays: Pittman had a 50-yard interception and a 45-yard missed field goal while Henderson contributed a 48-yard kickoff return.

Jimmy Bell rushed for three Ghostrider scores.

VIPERS 48, THUNDER 46

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Andrico Hines threw for 279 yards and five touchdowns as the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers held off the Daytona Beach Thunder in the closest game in AIFL history.

Hines had four first-half scores, including one on the opening play, as the Vipers took early leads of 15-0 and 35-14. Garvin Graves finished with seven catches for 167 yards and two scores.

With its defense pitching a fourth-quarter shutout, the Thunder closed to 48-46 on Travis Wilson's 13-yarder to Robert Bailey with 50 seconds, but the Thunder could not convert the two-pointer. Daytona Beach got the ball back with 11 seconds left, but couldn't capitalize.

Wilson finished the night with 219 yards and three touchdowns in the air while rushing for another touchdown and a pair of two-point conversions. He distributed the ball fairly evenly to Bailey (five receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns), Tarion Hubbard (four for 79) and Greene (four for 57 yards and one touchdown).

Bailey also added a 53-yard third quarter kickoff return while Brad Lee rushed for two touchdowns.

STUFF NOT IN THE BOX SCORE: Daytona Beach never led in the contest ... highlight moment of the night was lineman Steve Canidate's 13-yard "dash" on a fourth-down and goal play that busted ... he was brought down two yards short of a touchdown ... The Thunder only tried one field goal and was 2-6 on 2-point attempts.

BATTLE OF THE BAILEYS: Raleigh's Lavell Bailey spent one season with the NFL's St. Louis Rams and Daytona Beach's Robert Bailey is one of the indoor game's top players.

GOOD TO BE HOME: Ervin Bryson compiled a 6-1 record in the Ocean Center in 2005 and has not last back-to-back game in his last three seasons.

HAWG UNWILD: Other carryovers from last year's Daytona Beach NIFL team are: Micah Simmons, Brad Lee, Joe Giddens, Tommy Moody, Levar Sims, Steve Canidate, Kwasie Kwaku, Robert Lewis and Robert Bailey.

BRADSHAW UPDATE: The Thunder has officially deactivated NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw from its active roster. Bradshaw had back surgery last week and has a movie coming out next month, so we're pretty sure he has something to fall back on.
