March 1, 2006 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release

Southern Conference Players of The Week -- Week One

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The American Indoor Football League has announced its Southern Conference players of the week for the opening week of play as follows:

OFFENSE: Marcus Brady, Rome Renegades. He rushed for five touchdowns and completed 23 of 36 for 286 yards and two more scores as Rome upended the defending champion Richmond Bandits 55-43 on the road.

DEFENSE:Charles Jones, Rome Renegades. He registered three interceptions in the Renegades' victory. He also had three tackles.

LINEMAN: Darin Damron, Chattahoochee Valley Vipers. Stalwart on both sides of the ball in the Vipers' 48-46 nailbiter over the Daytona Beach Thunder. On defense, he registered 5.5 tackles - three for losses - and two for sacks while leading a line that gave up just one sack on quarterback Andrico Hines.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Montrail Pittman, Raleigh Rebels. Returned three missed field goals for 103 yards - both league records - and a touchdown in the Rebels' 69-37 victory over the Carolina Ghostriders. Pittman also had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown on defense.

Northern Conference Players of The Week -- Week One

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The American Indoor Football League has announced its Northern Conference players of the week for week one as follows:

OFFENSE: David Dinkins, Erie Freeze. Dinkins accounted for seven touchdowns - throwing for four and rushing for three in the Freeze's 59-40 victory over the Reading Express.

DEFENSE: Sam Reynolds, Erie Freeze. Reynolds intercepted two passes, including one in the final minutes to seal the game.

LINEMAN: Shea D'Ambrosio, Erie Freeze. He anchored the Freeze lines that gave Dinkins protection and kept Reading at bay.

SPECIAL TEAM: JR Cipra, Erie Freeze. He was 6 of 7 on point-afters, connected on a 22-yard field goal and registered a rouge in his kicking efforts.

Though registering a 66-33 victory over the Steubenville Stampede, players from the Canton Legends were disqualified from week one honors due to the team's failure to keep official statistics or film the game. A fine will be levied later in the week.

"There are great things happening in Canton, and I commend owner Joe Hoffman and coach Bobby Olive for the incredible turnaround with their franchise,'' said AIFL Director of Communications Dan Ryan. "But not keeping stats or film is an inexcusable -- but very correctable -- offense. I truly believe this is a one-time deal. One of the main purposes of this league is to give our players the game film and the opportunity to build their resumes."
