Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, proud member of the "AA" Central Hockey League, released promotional details on their upcoming homestand weekend set for Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena.

The Gems will be closing out the first month of 2012 with a bang when they host conference rivals Rapid City Rush and Evansville IceMen.

Friday, January 27th vs Rapid City Rush

Beginning on Friday, January 27 at 7pm, the Gems welcome the Rush back into the Gem City for the first time since the 2011 CHL Playoffs, and marks the fifth meeting this season between the two foes.

The game is presented by Kendall Marketing Solutions, and to help best equip fans to cheer on their team, the Gems will be handing out special limited edition Dayton Gems "rally towels" to the first 500 fans through the Hara Arena gates beginning at 6pm. In addition, Friday night is "Ohio State Alumni Night" featuring a special $4 off discount for center ice zone seats.

Capping off the festivities on Friday, the Gems will debut specially designed CHL 20th Anniversary jerseys and wear them during the game with the Rush. Fans will then have the opportunity to win one of the specialty game-worn jerseys through a live postgame auction in the Hara lobby. A portion of the proceeds from the live auction will go to benefit youth charities in the Miami Valley.

Saturday, January 28th vs Evansville IceMen

The Gems continue their weekend on Saturday, January 28, with the Evansville IceMen skating into Hara Arena for a 7pm faceoff. Presented by Greater Ohio Virtual School, Saturday's game features the much anticipated Gems Youth Jersey giveaway for the first 1,000 kids 12 and under through the gates starting at 6pm.

Saturday night will also celebrate Blade's birthday blowout, complete with a cupcake giveaway for the first 500 fans, and "mascot mania" featuring many popular mascots joining the Gems furry mascot Blade in attendance. Additionally, the Gems will offer a special $4 off discount on center ice zone seats for University of Dayton Alumni.

Gems fans will have the chance to make a difference in the lives of one local family on Saturday night as the Gems "Jam it for Jimmy".

Jimmy Jenks, a 17 year old senior at Tippecanoe High School in nearby Tipp City, is currently battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy followed by radiation. Upon hearing of the Jenks, the Gems reached out to Jimmy's mother Tina, and began setting up a benefit in his name to help offset the costs and burden of Jimmy's treatment and recovery.

The Gems will be donating $1 from every ticket sold to the Saturday, January 28th game, and will donate an additional $2,000 to the Jenks family if the game is sold out.

Tickets for Friday the 27 th and Saturday the 28 th games inside the historic Hara Arena are now available by calling the Gems ticket office at 275-7777 or by visiting www.DaytonGems.com. Discounted tickets are also available for groups of ten or more.
