Prescott Valley, AZ- Brett Hemingway continued his clutch scoring in a shootout as he put Wichita (23-9-2) past the Arizona Sundogs (12-17-3) 2-1 on Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The story of the night, however, were the goaltenders as Wichita's Adam Russo and Arizona's Scott Reid combined for 86 saves. Wichita is now 6-1 in the shootout and moved ahead of Allen by three points in first place in the Berry Conference.
Thomas Beauregard (18) broke a scoreless game halfway through the second period with a power play goal. Arizona would answer in the third period to tie the game at one when Daymen Rycroft found a long rebound and put it past Thunder netminder Adam Russo. For the second time in the last three games, Wichita headed for a shootout.
Wichita went second in the shootout and Russo was up to the task on former Thunder defenseman Steve Kaunisto. Hemingway put Wichita up 1-0 as he went first for the second straight time. After a save by Russo on Rycroft, Beauregard beat Reid over the glove to make it 2-0 Wichita. Matt Robinson iced it in round three as Wichita outscored Arizona 3-0, giving Wichita a 2-1 win in a shootout. Hemingway is now five for seven including four game-winning goals in a shootout.
