Dayton Gems Lose To Fort Wayne Komets 6 - 2

The Gems traveled to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne to take on the Komets. Both teams began the evening with a defensive battle. The 1st period ended in a draw with neither team scoring. Fort Wayne led off the 2nd during a powerplay with only 2:29 played in the period taking the lead; then only 14 seconds later scoring again. Dayton's Greg McCauley would find the net for the Gems less than 10 minutes later with assists from Todd Spencer and Russ Smith. But, the Komets would make another goal and the 2nd would end with Fort Wayne ahead 3 - 1. The Komets would score again this time short handed and the Gems would answer when Smith would add to Dayton's total with the help of McCauley with less than 5 minutes left in the game. Fort Wayne would add 2 more to their total and the evening would end with the Komets defeating the Gems 6 - 2.
