Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team is proud to announce the addition of veteran defenseman Rob Schweyer and rookie Tyson Aitcheson for the upcoming 2011-2012 Central Hockey League season.

A veteran of over 300 professional games, Schweyer joins the Gems and brings a wealth of experience from a career spanning nearly a decade in the CHL, ECHL and UHL, in addition to his major junior career in the Ontario Hockey League. Originally hailing from Simcoe, Ontario, Schweyer comes most recently from a two year stint with the Battle Creek Revolution, helping the club win their league championship last season. Commenting on the addition, Gems head coach Brian Gratz noted "Rob brings a tremendous amount of experience and character to the team. He is going to be a solid defensive defenseman who will add stability to the back end."

In addition to Schweyer, 24 year old Stratford, Ontario native Tyson Aitcheson begins his professional hockey career in a Gems sweater after spending the past two seasons playing collegiately for St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. Prior to his college hockey, Aitcheson prepared for a professional career by skating five seasons of major junior in the OHL with Ottawa, Sault St. Marie, Barrie and Sarnia. "Tyson is a big young defenseman. He possesses good skating and decision making abilities. He will bring a good physical presence to the blue line" added Gratz.

Both players will be in a Gems uniform when the club opens its third training camp on Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena in just 24 days on October 10.

The Dayton Gems opening night is set for Saturday, November 5 at 7pm. Season and mini pack ticket packages are now on sale starting at $27, while single game tickets go on sale to the public on September 20! Call the Gems at 275-7777 for more information and to order by phone.
