
Mallards Sign Pair to Tryout Agreements

MOLINE, Ill. (September 15, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that they have signed left wing Brett Liscomb and defenseman Peter Drikos to tryout agreements and that Eric Hufnagel has been named the Mallards' new athletic trainer. Per team policy, no contract terms were announced.
"Brett and Peter have both had success in their first couple of seasons as pros and both guys are highly motivated to perform well in camp try and make the step up to the CHL," said Mallards coach and general manager David Bell.
Liscomb, 25, scored 18 goals and totaled 50 points in 52 games with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Pensacola Ice Flyers last season. As a rookie in 2009-10, the Long Sault, Ontario, native scored six goals and produced 13 points in just ten games with the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc and also played six games in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers.
The 5' 9", 187-pound Liscomb stepped into the professional ranks after spending two seasons at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. In 42 career games as an X-Man, Liscomb scored 18 times and recorded 42 points.
Liscomb got his first taste of pro hockey when he played a single game for the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 2007-08 after completing a four-year stint in the major junior Ontario Hockey League during which he suited up for the Windsor Spitfires and Ottawa 67's.
Drikos, also 25, split last season between the Queen City Storm of the All American Hockey League and the Akwesasne Warriors of the Federal Hockey League. The 6' 2", 205-pound Toronto product scored five goals and registered 14 points in 16 games with Queen City and collected three assists in 10 games with Akwesasne. He went on to help the Warriors to the FHL Commissioner's Cup title last spring.
Like Liscomb, Drikos is approaching his third pro season. He skated with the AAHL's West Michigan Blizzard as rookie in 2009-10. Before beginning his pro career, Drikos spent a single season- 2008-09- at Ryerson University in Toronto. His time as a Ram followed four years in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League during which he played for six different clubs.
Hufnagel returns to the Quad Cities after spending the 2008-09 season with the American Hockey League's Quad City Flames as an athletic training student and volunteer. Hufnagel left the Quad Cities to take over as head athletic trainer for the South Georgia Wildcats in Arena Football 2. He spent the 2009 campaign with the Wildcats before moving on to the SPHL's Mississippi Surge, for whom he served as head athletic trainer for the last two seasons. Hufnagel is a graduate of Central Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and sports medicine.
Liscomb and Drikos join Obi Aduba, Jesse Biduke, Jared Boyer Jared Brown, Justin Chwedoruk, Sean Flanagan, Brad Fogal, Eric Giosa, Joel Gasper, Jason Kostadine, Martin Kubaliak, Karl Linden, Shane Lovdahl, Brandon Marino, David McKee, Darren McMillan, Bobby Preece, Tyler Sheldrake, John Snowden and Quinn Waller to bring the number of players on the Mallards' preseason roster to 22.
The 2011-12 Mallards will see their first game action when they take the ice at the i wireless Center along with the Bloomington Blaze, Evansville IceMen and Missouri Mavericks for the Icebreaker on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
