Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) host the Lansing Lugnuts (affiliate of the Oakland Athletics) at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. This is the first game of a six-game series. Season Series: Dayton 3, Lansing 3 (all games to date at Lansing).

Last Game: Sunday: Peoria 9, Dayton 2. The Chiefs built a 4-0 lead over the first two innings and then added five more in the seventh to build their lead to 9-0. The Dragons had five hits. Justice Thompson had a double and single. Jake Gilbert, with three scoreless frames, was the most effective Dayton pitcher. Peoria Series Recap: The Dragons went 2-4 in the series, averaging 5.2 runs/game, batting .218 with seven home runs, a 5.40 ERA, and seven errors.

Top Prospects Join Dragons: Several roster changes are expected to be announced later today. In recent days, the Dragons have made numerous moves. Blue-chip prospect Noelvi Marte, who was acquired from the Mariners in the trade involving MLB all-star Luis Castillo, headlines the arrivals. MLB.com has slotted Marte as the Reds #1 prospect, while Baseball America has him ranked #2, behind Elly De La Cruz. Left-handed starting pitcher Steven Hajjar, who was acquired from the Twins in the trade involving major league pitcher Tyler Mahle, has been added. Hajjar was the Twins second round draft pick in 2021 out of the University of Michigan. The Dragons received starting pitcher Chase Petty from Single-A Daytona. Petty was acquired in spring training from the Twins for MLB all-star Sonny Gray. Petty was the Twins first round draft pick in 2021. Last Thursday, the Dragons added relief pitchers Dennis Boatman, Frainger Aranguren, and Jean Correa.

The Dragons have scored 56 runs over their last 10 games (5.6 runs per game). They averaged 3.2 runs per game in July. Their team batting average of .199 in July was the second lowest in the minors.

Dayton has hit 119 home runs, the most they have hit in a season since 2008 when they hit 120. The Dragons are on a pace to hit 154 on the year (130-game season). The club record is 144 in 2001 in a 139-game season.

Brian Rey has played in nine games with the Dragons, batting .333 with a home run and six runs batted in.

Jose Torres hit .333 (8 for 24) in the last series vs. Peoria with two home runs (including a grand slam) and a double.

Vin Timpanelli has allowed runs in just one of seven relief appearances since July 1 (9.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 16 SO).

Donovan Benoit (now on injured list) over his last four appearances has not allowed a run (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 SO).

Myles Gayman over his 13 appearances since May 26 has posted a 2.30 ERA (27.1 IP, 18 H, 7 R, 6 BB, 29 SO).
