Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Fort Wayne TinCaps (affiliate of the San Diego Padres) in the first game of a six-game series.

Last Game: Sunday: Wisconsin 3, Dayton 1. Wisconsin starting pitcher Edwin Jimenez took a shutout into the eighth inning as the Timber Rattlers earned a split of the set. Dayton finished with five hits including three by Mat Nelson (2 doubles, single). Dragons relievers Myles Gayman, Jacob Heatherly, Braxton Roxby, and Zach Maxwell combined for 7.1 shutout innings.

Last Series (August 8-13 at Wisconsin): Dayton went 3-3 in the series.

Dayton team statistics in the series: .273 batting average; 5.0 runs/game; 5 home runs; 6 stolen bases; 4.67 ERA; 5 errors.

The Dragons reached season highs in hits (60) and extra base hits (25) for a series in the six-game set at Wisconsin.

Team Notes

The Dragons are tied with Fort Wayne for second place, one-half game behind West Michigan in the East Division. To reach the playoffs, the Dragons must win the division title in the second half (or finish second in the second half if Great Lakes wins the second half title).

The Dragons offense has been productive in recent days. Since August 4 (9 games), the Dragons lead the league in home runs (10), walks (38), OPS (.805), slugging percentage (.458), and doubles (27). They are third in runs scored (44) and second in team batting average (.262). The Dragons have had at least 10 hits in four of the last five games. Note: Fort Wayne is first in the league in team batting average and runs scored over this same period.

The Dragons have gone 14-7 (.667) over their last 21 games.

Twice in the series at Wisconsin, the Dragons went to their bullpen with two outs in the first inning, and the bullpen completed the remainder of the game without allowing a run.

Player Notes

Jack Rogers in his last 14 games is batting .360, collecting four home runs, two triples, five doubles, 15 RBI, while slugging .780. His 1.238 OPS since July 28 is fifth among all Minor League players below the Triple-A level (90 teams) and first among High-A players.

Edwin Arroyo in his last 26 games (since the MLB all-star break on July 14) is hitting .323 with 15 RBI, 18 walks, 18 strikeouts, and 14 stolen bases with an OPS of .969. Arroyo since May 31 has played in 60 games and is batting .300 with six home runs, 22 stolen bases, and an .887 OPS, raising his average from .182 to .254.

Sal Stewart since joining the Dragons has appeared in six games, going 8 for 24 (.333) with one double.

Mat Nelson in August is batting .333 with four home runs and a 1.042 OPS.

Tyler Callihan over his last 10 games is batting .308 with four doubles and one triple.

Braxton Roxby over his last 25 G (since May 14): 3-1, 1.64 ERA, 4 saves, 38.1 IP, 21 H, 15 BB, 43 SO, .157 opponent's average.

Jayvien Sandridge over his last 10 G (since July 6): 1-0, 0.46 ERA, 19.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 7 BB, 32 SO, .111 opponent's average.

Prospecting: The Dragons roster includes four players currently ranked among the Reds top-10 prospects by MLB.com, headlined by Edwin Arroyo, a shortstop ranked as the Reds #3 prospect. Arroyo, age 19, is among the 10 youngest position players to have played in the MWL this season, and the youngest among players with at least 200 at-bats. Dragons starting pitcher Chase Petty is currently ranked as the Reds #7 prospect by MLB.com. Dragons third baseman Sal Stewart is ranked as the Reds #8 prospect by MLB.com. Stewart is the second youngest position player to play in the MWL this season. Dragons second baseman Carlos Jorge is ranked as the Reds #10 prospect by MLB.com. Additionally, outfielder Austin Hendrick is ranked as the Reds #29 prospect by MLB.com.
