Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MA - Coming into Monday night's game, the Lowell Spinners (12-4), proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, faced the daunting task of opening a six-game set at home, starting with three against the Vermont Lake Monsters (8-9), affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. They were able to do so, thanks to a five RBI performance from 19th round draftee Joe Davis and won by a final tally of 7-1.

After three innings of no score, the Spinners got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Elih Marrero walked to lead the inning off and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Wil Dalton followed with a walk of his own, setting up Joe Davis for his first big hit.

Davis came through with a rocket home run that ricocheted off the scoreboard, his first professional home run, scoring both Dalton and Marrero and giving Lowell a 3-0 lead.

After the Lake Monsters got on the board in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Michael Woodworth, making it 3-1, the Spinners got a run back when Alex Erro drove in Nick Decker on a suicide squeeze, giving his guys a 4-1 lead.

Davis continued his hot hitting in the bottom of the eight when he drove in Marrero and Dalton again, this time on a two-run double that split the gap perfectly in left-center field, giving the Spinners a 6-1 lead.

Following a Nick Northcut ground out that sent Davis to third, Decker beat the shift - singling the opposite way, driving in Davis from third and making it 7-1 in favor of Lowell.

On the mound for the Spinners was 21-year old Bryan Lucas, who was searching for elusive first win of the season. Lucas would get the win, and he pitched well. He through five shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He also struck out four strikeouts and walked just two.

The Spinners will be back in action on Tuesday against Vermont once again, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
