Dash Forward Ebony Salmon Earns NWSL Player of the Week Honors
July 20, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The National Women's Soccer League announced that forward Ebony Salmon was named the Player of the Week presented by Budweiser for Week 11.
Salmon, who joined the Dash less than a month ago, led the team in scoring, shots and shots on target in Houston's 4-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars. The 21-year-old striker became the second player to record a hat trick for the Dash this season and the youngest in NWSL history to do so.
This marks the first time Salmon has earned the honor. The England native joined the NWSL in 2021 when she signed for Racing Louisville FC and is in her second season in the league. Houston acquired Salmon via trade on June 27.
Salmon joins her teammate, forward Nichelle Prince, who earned Player of the Week honors for Week 6 after securing her own hat trick on June 3 against the Orlando Pride. Prince became the first player in club history to record a hat trick.
There have been three hat tricks so far in league play this this season with Prince and San Diego Wave FC forward Alex Morgan owning the first two. This is only the third time in league history where a single club has recorded multiple hat tricks in the same season.
Salmon and the Dash are back in action on July 31 as they prepare to take on NJ/NY Gotham FC on the road. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on Paramount+ and Twitch (Intl.).
