March 31, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers will be holding a special presentation during halftime of their game against the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, April 1st at Savvis Center. The Steamers will be retiring Daryl Doran's number 7 jersey to the rafters ensuring no one playing professional indoor soccer in St. Louis will wear that number again.

Doran is a St. Louis native who attended CBC High School where he was a two-time Parade Magazine All-American. In 1981, he was drafted in the first round (sixth overall) by the Steamers. He opted to play one season at Saint Louis University and competed with the U.S. National soccer team that same year. Daryl began his professional indoor career at the age of 19 in 1982, when he was again selected by the Steamers in the MISL first round (seventh overall).

Doran has played for every St. Louis professional indoor soccer team: The original MISL Steamers (1982-88), the St. Louis Storm of the Major Soccer League (1989-1992) the St. Louis Ambush of the National Professional Soccer League (1992-1999), the St. Louis Steamers of the World Indoor Soccer League (2000 and 2001), and the current MISL Steamers (2003-2005).

In 1994, Doran added coaching duties to his playing role. His St. Louis Ambush teams won five division titles and four conference championships in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). His 1994-1995 Ambush team is the only St. Louis professional indoor soccer team to win a league championship, capturing the NPSL title and earning Doran the league's Coach of the Year honor. While in the NPSL, Daryl was named National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) Defender of the Year in 1997 and was a six-time All-NPSL selection. Doran has been selected to play on 13 All-Star squads and has performed in more than 90 pro indoor playoff games.

Daryl and his wife, Barb, have two children: Kayla, and Daryl Jr.
