Daoust Scores Two in Win over Halifax

The Saint John Sea Dogs (33-17-1-3) beat the Halifax Mooseheads (27-26-1-1) 6-4 in a weeknight matchup on the road. A high scoring back and forth first period led into a Sea Dogs dominated second and third in the 6-4 win on Wednesday. Philippe Daoust scored two, and goals came from Olivier Picard, Vincent Sévigny, William Dufour, and Nathan Drapeau in the win.

Thomas Couture got the start for Saint John, stopping 26 of 30 shots. Brady James started for Halifax with 29 of the Sea Dogs 35 shots.

The game began with a high-scoring first period. Saint John struck first on the road, Olivier Picard hitting the back of the net 2:10 into the game from right in front of the crease.

24 seconds later, Zachary Beauregard, who scored the game winner in the two teams last matchup on Sunday, tied the game up at 1. James Swan added one of his own and Halifax took the lead at 4:42.

Saint John struck again at 6:22, this time the goal went to Philippe Daoust, batting a shot from Ryan Francis past the Halifax netminder and tying the game at 2.

Mooseheads captain Elliot Desnoyers scored with four minutes remaining in the period and the Mooseheads went into the second period with the lead.

Shots after the first period were 13-12 for Saint John.

Sea Dogs captain Vincent Sévigny tied the game up early, scoring just 20 seconds after the puck dropped on the second frame and at 11:24. Philippe Daoust netted his second of the night, getting in close and roofing a shot off his backhand to take the lead to go into the final period.

Midway through the third period, William Dufour scored his 46th goal of the season and 100th career QMJHL goal, picking up a breakout pass from William Villeneuve and forcing his way to the net.

Two minutes later Nathan Drapeau made it 6-3, firing the puck into the offensive zone from centre ice. The puck bounced off the boards and into the net.

With 5 seconds remaining in play, Robert Orr scored the Mooseheads fourth and final goal of the night.

Final shots were 35-30 for Saint John.
