Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves used a three-spot in the sixth inning to eliminate the Bluefield Orioles, 5-3, before 1,205 fans at Dan Daniel Memorial Park Thursday night. Danville improved to 44-19, while the Orioles fell to 32-31.

The first three Braves reached to load the bases in the first inning. All the runners moved up on a wild pitch, allowing L.V. Ware to score and make it 1-0. Osman Marval's RBI groundout made it 2-0 to support starter Cory Rasmus, who retired the first eight men he faced before allowing two-out single in the third.

Bluefield got him for a run in the fourth as Omar Casamayor scored on Kipp Schutz's groundout to second.

The Braves delivered the knockout punch in the sixth as Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg doubled to left-center and scored on Marval's single. Matt Weaver's infield single and a walk to Jordan Kreke loaded the bases for Bobby Rauh, who walked to bring in a run. Ware followed by singling in the final run of the night for the D-Braves.

The Orioles tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth off Braves reliever Luis Avilan to cut the lead to 5-3, but the Venezuelan left-hander struck out two in the final frame to end the game.

Rasmus (4-2) was solid over six innings, allowing a run on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Vito Frabizio (4-4), who earlier in the week was named the Appy League's Right-handed pitching All-Star, took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Danville's Tom Berryhill worked a scoreless seventh inning in his first outing since Aug. 2.

Marval and Weaver finished with two hits apiece and Marval added two RBI.
