Danridge To Stay In Albuquerque
November 4, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 4, 2009 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds announced today that former UNM Lobo Tony Danridge will be invited to the team's upcoming training camp. He was allocated to the team along with returning Thunderbirds' standout Kevin Pittsnogle. The team will be holding camp later this month, with a combination of allocated, drafted, returning and tryout players vying for roster spots.
Danridge is coming off a stellar career at the University of New Mexico, where he finished as the school's 16th all-time leading scorer. During his senior campaign, he led the team with 14.9 ppg and was named First Team All-Mountain West Conference. He capped his collegiate career with a win at the NCAA Slam Dunk contest, held during the 2009 Final Four.
Pittsnogle was a college star at West Virginia from 2002-2006. He finished as the school's sixth all-time leading scorer, and helped lead the Mountaineers to the Elite Eight in 2005 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2006. He previously had a stint with the Thunderbirds during the 2007-08 season, averaging 15.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg in 33 games (24 starts).
The team will add to its training camp roster during the NBA Development League Draft tomorrow. The Thunderbirds have the first overall pick in the draft, and the team's Draft Party will take place at Spectators Sports Bar and Grill from 4:30 - 9:00 pm. The event is open to all, and will be broadcast live on NBA TV.
"We have quite a contrast with our two allocated players," said head coach John Coffino. "With Tony, you get NBA caliber athleticism, and with Kevin, it's no secret how deep his range is. Both guys have a chance to make it to the next level with hard work and some timely opportunities. They should complement each other very well, and I'm looking forward to big contributions from both."
The T-Birds will open the regular season against the Bakersfield Jam on Friday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 pm. The team will then play the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Nov. 28 at 7:00 pm.
Thunderbirds Season Tickets are still available for as low as $4 per game. Call 505-265-3865 or visit www.abqtbirds.com for more information. Make plans now to be at opening weekend, Nov. 27 and 28.
