Danny Waltman Earns Team of the Week Honors for First Time this Season

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (February 25, 2015) - The Major Arena Soccer League announced on Wednesday its Team of the Week and honorable mentions. For the first time this season, longtime Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman represented the Central Division Champions, while league leader Leo Gibson received an honorable mention.

- F Gordy Gurson (St. Louis Ambush)

The Gig Harbor, Washington native had ten saves against the Tacoma Stars at the Independence Events Center and broke the record for most wins in a season with seventeen, while playing a total of 1006:45 minutes and recording 236 saves.

Due to an injury, Waltman had to sit out two matches and was replaced by rookie Stephen Patterson for the games against St. Louis on 01/16 and Chicago on 01/30.

On the other hand, despite breaking the record for most points in a game with 12 (8 goals and 4 assists) on Sunday, surpassing the old record of 11 set by Jay Hamilton (Denver Dynamite - 03/01/09) and Greg Hamilton (Tacoma Stars - 02/09/11), forward Leo Gibson only received an honorable mention.

The Monrovia, Liberia native finished the regular season with a total of 93 points coming from 48 goals and 45 assists becoming the league leader in points, goals and assists.

In addition, Gibson set new records for points and assists last week for points (surpassing Kraig Chiles' 72 in 2012/13) and assists with 41 (topping Enrique Tovar's 40 in 2013/14).

This week slates three playoff games from Thursday through Sunday while six games finish up the regular season.

Thursday night features the Milwaukee Wave traveling to Chicago for the opening game of the playoffs against the Mustangs.

On Sunday, two playoff games will take place when Texas Oxford City FC travels to Dallas to face the Sidekicks and Las Vegas travels to Ontario in divisional playoffs.

Next up, the Comets will host the winner of the Milwaukee and Chicago series on March 12 at 7:00 p.m. CT for the Divisional Final.
