Schindler Earns League Team of the Week Honors
February 25, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Rochester Lancers News Release
(Rochester, NY) -- The Major Arena Soccer League today announced this week's Team of the Week. Each week, the MASL selects the top performing players in the league to join this list. From over 400 active players in the league, Schindler was selected as one of just two defenders to earn a spot.
Schindler, who is a Rochester native, helped secure two key wins as the team prepares for the playoffs. Last week, the team hosted Harrisburg, holding them to just two goals in a 33-5 win. Sunday, Schindler and his stingy defense held rival Syracuse (11-8) to just three goals in a nail-biting 9-7 victory in the Salt City. That win guaranteed the team (10-9) would have its first .500 season ever and evened the season series with Syracuse at 3-3.
Schindler, who has been with the Lancers since the first season in 2011, has become a key factor of the team's backline. He enters this week's final game of the regular season with 14 blocks and six assists on the year.
Mauricio Salles, Yaikel Perez, Marcelo Earn Team of the Week Honorable Mention
Lancers forward and Team Captain Mauricio Salles continued his impressive scoring with four goals, three assists in the last two games. He now has 39 goals this season, which is in the league's top five.
Yaikel Perez has been a key ingredient to the Lancers success and his making his own case for the league's All-Rookie Team. He now has 12 goals on the season, with two coming in the past two games. Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo returned from injury in a big way against Harrisburg and Syracuse this past weekend. Only allowing five goals total landed him a spot amongst the league's best.
The Lancers head into this weekend for their final regular season game of the year. They play top seed Baltimore at the War Memorial on Sunday, March 1 at 4pm. Fans can catch the game live on http://golivesportscast.com/ or listen on 93.3 Fickle FM. The team will pay tribute to all military as they wear custom camo jerseys that will be auctioned after the game to benefit Children of Fallen Soldiers. The first 1,000 fans will receive a team photo courtesy of Get it Straight Orthodontics! It's also the last chance to win a car, courtesy of Ide Family of Dealerships. The RIT Pep Band will also perform throughout the game! For more information, or to purchase tickets starting at just $10, visit www.rlancers.com.
