Danbury Titans Snag Two out of Three
February 1, 2016 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Danbury Titans News Release
The Titans had a busy schedule for the weekend with three games in three nights. They did get some good news as forwards Ryan Patsch and Tyler Gjurich came back from their stints with the Elmira Jackals.
Thursday night featured Danbury's first meeting of the season with the Dayton Demolition. The Titans struck first as Gjurich tallied for the only goal. From there the teams bounced back and forth as Dayton scored three times. The Titans were able to keep the game even by the end of the period as Zach Tatrn and Dean Yakura put the puck in the net.
The third period looked to belong to Dayton early scoring two minutes into the period. However, a shorthanded goal from Yakura gave the Titans life. They continued to press until Phil Bronner scored with under two minutes left in the game. The Titans locked it down from there to earn the win.
From there, Danbury packed up and drove north to Port Huron to take on the Prowlers. Despite getting their first win over Port Huron the previous, the Prowlers got back to their winning ways against Danbury. Mike Driscoll and John Scorcia scored for Danbury to keep the game within reach but it was not enough as Port Huron won 4-2.
A long ride back home allowed the Titans to get ready for a big matchup with the Brewster Bulldogs. Despite the fact it was listed as a road game the two teams would be meeting in Danbury. Right from the start the two teams were physical. Brewster would get off to a hot start, however, as they ended the period up 4-2. Patsch and Scorcia scored for Danbury.
From there, the Titans took over the game. Physical play and driving hard to the net allowed Danbury to score five unanswered goals. Bronner (2), Gjurich (2), and Driscoll tallied to give Danbury a 7-4 lead. Brewster gave Danbury a scare with two late goals but the Titans held on for a 7-6 win.
The Titans have another three game set this week. They will have a home and home series with Berlin Thursday (7:35 PM in Danbury) and Friday (in Berlin). Saturday will feature another showdown with the Port Huron Prowlers at the Danbury Ice Arena at 7:35 PM.
