July 27, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release
In a tightly contested Western Division contest, it was the Danbury Westerners who came out on top, defeating the Keene Swamp Bats on Saturday night 3-2
Keene's starter Brian Hunter (2-2) had his strikeout pitch working, but couldn't limit the damage enough to avoid the loss.
The right-hander out of Hartford University went seven inning, giving up three runs on six hits, but had a season high 13 strikeouts with just one walk.
Danbury was the ones who jumped out to the early 3-0 lead, starting things off right away with a two run first inning, scoring on a Riley Palmer RBI single and a wild pitch.
The Westerners tacked on another one in the seventh, off an Alex Cruz solo home run.
Keene answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the seventh.
Kent State's Tommy Monnot drove in the first one on a sacrifice fly and later, Robbie Cafiero, Hofstra, drove in the second Swamp Bat run with an RBI single.
The Swamp Bats threatened in the eighth and ninth but failed to tally a third run, as they fell to the Westerners 3-2.
The loss drops Keene's record to 23-16, and now sit a half game behind the Vermont Mountaineers for first place in the Western Division.
The Mountaineers will be coming to Alumni Field on Sunday night for their final regular season matchup with Keene. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
