Damian Harrell named AFL Offensive Player of the Year

Denver, Colo. – Colorado Crush OS Damian Harrell was named the Arena Football League's 2005 Offensive Player of the Year, the league announced today. Harrell, in his third season with the American Conference Champion Crush, becomes the first player in franchise history to receive a player of the year award.

Harrell finished the regular season with 1,486 receiving yards (4th in the AFL) on 122 catches (4th in the AFL). His 41 touchdowns were the second-most in the league, while he ranked second in the league in 3rd-down receptions (24). This season marks the fifth straight that Harrell has finished with over 1,200 receiving yards.

In this his seventh AFL season, Harrell (6-3, 200, Florida State) set an AFL record for consecutive games with a touchdown reception (42), breaking Eddie Brown's (Albany Firebirds) record on April 3 when the Crush defeated the Las Vegas Gladiators. The streak now stands at 49 games.

An original member of the Crush, Harrell holds all franchise game, season and career marks for scoring and receiving yards. Since the team's inception in 2003, he has scored 738 points on 333 catches and 4,627 receiving yards. He has 8,414 yards, averaging 13.8 yards per catch, in his career.

This honor comes this same season he became the first Crush player to be named First Team All-Arena. Last season, Harrell garnered Second Team All-Arena honors.

Harrell helped the Crush to both its first Central Division and American Conference titles. The Crush takes on the Georgia Force in ArenaBowl XIX on Sunday, June 12th (1 p.m. MT, NBC) at Las Vegas' Thomas and Mack Center.
