5 Things to Know about #DALvPOR

Pepi the Poacher

Teenaged Homegrown Ricardo Pepi came off the bench against the San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday to score FCD's first goal of 2021 from close range. In last year's playoffs, Pepi performed a similar super sub role and scored against the Portland Timbers in the 93rd minute to force extra time and eventually penalties, where FC Dallas progressed to the Western Conference semifinals.

Tanner the Tank

Midfielder Tanner Tessmann made his first start of 2021 in Dallas' last game against the Earthquakes. The 19-year-old Homegrown had 34 touches, 22 passes and two tackles in his 60 minutes of playing time. Tessmann arrived late to FCD's preseason after taking part in the U-23 U.S. Men's National Team Olympic qualifying campaign.

Keeper Questions

Last week against San Jose, starting goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was forced to leave the game early through injury and head coach Luchi Gonzalez confirmed he would remain unavailable for Dallas' date with Portland this Saturday. Now, the other two 'keepers on the roster, Phelipe Megiolaro and Kyle Zobeck, will compete for the starting spot this weekend.

Against Portland

Dallas' all-time regular season record against Portland is 8-7-7 with 37 goals scored and 28 conceded. FCD's all-time regular season home record against the Timbers is 7-1-4 with 27 goals for and just 12 against. Last year, FCD and Portland faced off in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs with Dallas winning 8-7 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at Providence Park.

About Portland

Portland began its 2021 MLS campaign with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps but followed it up with a 2-1 victory over Houston Dynamo FC on April 24. The Timbers are also competing in the Concacaf Champions League where they face Club América of Liga MX at the quarterfinal stage. Portland and América played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, April 28 and will play the second leg of the tie on May 5.
