Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC Charities announced today that the charitable arm of the Club selected Houston Independent School District as the beneficiary of Every Save Makes a Difference program in 2021.
The Every Save Makes a Difference program is a collaboration between MLS WORKS, Allstate and TUDN that began in 2015. The program donates to local charitable organizations in MLS markets that are positively impacting lives in Hispanic communities.
The program will donate $500 to HISD middle schools for every save made by a Dynamo goalkeeper during a TUDN or Univision broadcast, beginning with Saturday's match against Carlos Vela and LAFC at BBVA Stadium. The Dynamo will play for HISD the following weekend against FC Dallas in Frisco on May 8. The Dynamo will feature in five matches on the TUDN and Univision network this season.
"The Club is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to work with HISD and grow the game through this program. We want to give students more access to soccer at a younger age and the equipment we donate to the middle schools will increase the number of opportunities for students to play the game," Director of Community Relations, Valerie Holland said. "After helping re-start the soccer program at Yates High School last year, we knew we had to help build the pipeline at a younger age. We have our first opportunity on Saturday to raise funds for the program and we look forward to using those resources to provide a positive activity and spread the sport to young Houstonians."
Dynamo Charities donated $19,000 in equipment through Every Save Makes a Difference in 2020 to the Boys and Girls Club of Houston, Austin High School and Yates High School. Since 2016, Dynamo Charities has donated $40,000 through the Every Save Makes a Difference program.
"It is a testament to the Dynamo organization's commitment to our communities and children by creating a program that will benefit students," said HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan. "We are thankful for their ongoing support and the donated money will make a difference at our middle schools. All of us at HISD will be cheering for every possible save during the game."
HISD has 280 schools and more than 200,000 students, making it the largest school district in the Lone Star State and the seventh largest in the country. The school district has 39 middle schools that served 32,495 students from 2020-2021.
Dynamo Charities is the 501(c)(3) non-profit arm of the Houston Dynamo Football Club. The organization's philanthropic efforts are centered around three core pillars of expanding youth soccer, providing youth enrichment opportunities and childhood cancer awareness.
