POST GAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH LATRICIA TRAMMEL
On what she learned about her team through this loss...
"We missed 18 layups wide open and this is probably the growth part of a true long road trip that we haven't experienced. I mean, especially when you're shorthanded as well. I thought we were a little tired at times even though we rotated pretty well. And then 15 missed block outs and they scored 15 points off of those rebounds. And so that's another area of growth. But a good positive about it, we did win the third quarter for the first time. So, we'll take it."
On what the next 48 hours are going to look like...
"Well, we fly out early in the morning and then we go right back and when we land we go to the gym and we start preparing for Minnesota for the next day. And so, we're going to try to get as much rest- good thing as we're sleeping in our own beds and not jumping on a plane again, which is part of the process and we know it. But yeah, we just we go to the gym, we watch film. We grow from this, get some rest and recovery, focus on that mental health and get ready for Minnesota."
On Chicago's Elizabeth Williams...
She is so long and she can rebound. I mean, she moved so well. It's one of those things that I think with Williams is that she does all those little things that don't show up a lot of times on the stat sheet, but she she's an incredible player and I knew that she was going to be a force to be reckoned with coming in. I'm a fan."
On playing without Teaira McCowan...
"Yeah, it matters. [We] need her. You know what I mean. But you can't help it. So that's just one of those things. And you've got to give Natasha Howard credit, though, because she's playing in a position that she normally wouldn't do. Because she's having to play the five a lot more than the four, and so that's an adjustment. But I think we're probably going to hopefully add someone soon."
On Maddy Siegrist's adjustment to the WNBA...
"You know she's low minutes, but she's getting there. And I looked at her when she knocked [her first shot] down. I drew up a play for her and she knocked it down at the top of the key. I just looked at her and said, 'Don't forget I do believe in you [and] I wouldn't have drawn that up just for you.' She's a great teammate. Great professional already. Never satisfied, but she definitely doesn't disrespect the game."
On the adjustments Chicago made against Ogunbowale in the second half...
"Switching in more aggressive. There's a couple of times that we came down and probably should have gone inside out more. That's where it gets hard. Because if you think of Arike, she can knock down some shots I don't even understand. I think they looked more energized than we did, to be honest. Chicago is a great team, especially at home. [Head] Coach [James] Wade does an incredible job, and we knew it was going to be a bumpy ride when we came in. I just think that with what I mentioned at the beginning with the missed layups and the missed block outs, and we still were in the game. I think we're a dadgum good team, so if we can just correct little things and grow from this and move forward in a positive way together, we're going to win a lot of games."
On having Satou Sabally back at full strength...
"You probably you could answer that question for me. Yeah, Satou, she's at full strength right now as you just mentioned. I mean, especially with Diamond [DeShields] being out, with Lou [Lopez Senechal] being out with Teaira [McCowan] being out and she is taking a lot on her shoulders. She's a competitor, just the way that she can score at multiple levels. She can defend at multiple positions. She can rebound, which is taking up a little bit from not having Teaira. Yeah, I'll say this 1000 times - I'm sure glad she's on our team."
On what she sees in Veronica Burton that benefits the team in the long run....
Her voice. Her leadership. I think that's something that V does an outstanding job at. Yeah, she struggled offensively. She was 0-5, 0-5 from the three. We can expect she's going to knock down all of her free throws. But she had six assists, so she can find other ways if her shots not falling to contribute in a positive way, and she did that. Delivering the basketball and also defending. You can't go wrong with V."
On Howard having to switch into a new position...
"You know, hopefully we're going to get her some help to get her back to what she needs to do. But she's been playing tons of minutes. Which, can't help it. I mean when you have players like her, you're wanting to win and you're trying to rotate as much as you possibly can. Natasha is going to give it all. I mean she is. She's not going to look at me and want out. She's going to let those wheels fall off and see what's next. We're talking about a true vet. I mean, she knows how to take care of her body, and so I'm not going to worry about her not being ready for Tuesday's game because she'll come out full force."
On Chicago's Marina Mabrey...
"Yeah, I have spent a lot of time with Marina because we drafted her in LA. I have coached her before and I really like Marina. Spent a lot of time with her and stayed connected with her even after we traded her in LA. She's one of the best guards in the league and I have a lot of respect for her."
If this loss was expected being on a road trip with only nine active players...
"I don't want to make excuses for ourselves because, again, we had 16 missed layups, but we usually don't do that. So, I think it does play a play a role when you have players that play a lot of minutes. It's not like they didn't want to win or didn't want to compete because they were doing that. They want to. They're disappointed when we go back and watch film and it's going to probably be a little harder once they see some of the things that we did in certain possessions. It is what it is. We've got to get used to it, right? We just got to lace them up a little tighter and compete a little harder."
On the usage of Jasmine Dickey...
"Like I said, we have four on the bench, two rookies, and we have Awak that had more minutes tonight. And then Jasmine. I've been a fan of Jasmine since day one when I arrived. Just her work ethic. I even said to the team today prior to this game. I think with what she produced the last game she was plus 15 in 10 minutes, that's the third in franchise history that player has done that. So, talk about someone that had limited minutes in the past to get an even a better opportunity now. Don't sleep on her because I haven't."
