Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
(Vero Beach, FL) - Ryan Klosterman drove in six runs to lead the Dunedin Blue Jays to a 10-1 victory over the Vero Beach Dodgers Tuesday night at Holman Stadium. The win gave Dunedin a sweep of the 4-game series, despite a 3-4 night from Vero third baseman Travis Denker. The Dodgers stay home to face the Lakeland Tigers Wednesday night at 7:00 PM for Dodgers Nesting Doll Giveaway Night.
The Blue Jays wasted little time getting started. Aaron Mathews, who went 6-7 Monday night, began the game with a single to center. After Chris Malone struck out the next hitter, Dunedin rapped out three straight singles to score two runs and give the Jays a 2-0 lead.
Malone set down the side in order in the second, but the Jays hit it big in the third. Ryan Patterson reached on an error to start the inning. Robinzon Diaz then singled and Eric Nielsen doubled home Patterson. After a walk, Ryan Klosterman poked a grand slam home run to left that ballooned the Dunedin lead to 7-0. Klosterman added a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning to put his team ahead 9-0.
Dunedin made it 10-0 before the Dodgers crossed home plate in the eighth. Blake DeWitt doubled for his second hit of the game and later scored on a Cory Dunlap ground out. DeWitt finished the 4-game series with 8 hits in 16 at bats (.500). Denker's 3-4 night made him 6-15 (.400) against the Jays.
It was the first time the Dodgers had been swept since a 3-game series at Brevard County April 13-15. Their current 4-game losing streak is the 2nd longest streak of the year.
