Colorado 14ers News Release

DENVER - March 15, 2009 - The Los Angeles D-Fenders used a 15-0 run in the second quarter to open up the game and never looked back in a 111-107 victory over the Colorado 14ers at the Broomfield Event Center Sunday night. Los Angeles ended Colorado's nine game home court win streak, and has now won five straight games overall against the 14ers.

Colorado took a 30-28 lead on a Dominique Coleman to Sonny Weems alley-oop at the 10:41 mark of the second quarter, only to see the D-Fenders counter with the next 15 points of the game. Led by Darren Cooper's eight points during the spurt, the Los Angeles bench took a lead that the D-Fenders wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night. Cooper finished with 15 points while Ryan Forehan-Kelly posted a game-high 24 on 9-12 shooting off the bench in the win.

"That's our job to come off the bench and add a spark," said Forehan-Kelly. "I had some good looks so that's my job to knock those down."

In addition to Cooper and Forehan-Kelly, all five Los Angeles starters finished in double figures on the night. Joe Crawford had 16, while Dwayne Mitchell added 13 points and nine rebounds in the victory.

Trailing by 17 at the half, Colorado made a huge run to get back into the game in the third quarter. Trey Gilder and Sonny Weems scored eight points apiece in the period as the 14ers outscored the D-Fenders 33-21 to pull within five heading to the fourth period. Colorado would cut the lead to two with 42.3 seconds to play before Los Angeles Lakers assigned player Sun Yue hit a driving floater and drew a foul with 23.9 seconds left to close the door on the 14ers.

Colorado was led by Dominique Coleman's 20 points. Trey Gilder added 15 with 12 rebounds and two blocked shots in the loss.

Los Angeles now heads home for a St. Patrick's Day matinee against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Colorado will host the Idaho Stampede in Broomfield on Tuesday.
