D-Fenders Rally from 25 Down to Shock Charge

EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders pulled off a come-from-behind 114-109 victory over the Canton Charge in their final home contest of the season at Toyota Sports Center on Wednesday night.

At the end of the first quarter, the D-Fenders (21-27) jumped out to a narrow 28-26 lead after sinking 11 shots on nine assists and committing just three turnovers. However, the Charge (28-20) grabbed command of the game in the second quarter, closing the frame on a 25-9 run to take a 58-42 advantage into halftime.

Falling behind by as many as 25 points in the third, the D-Fenders tied a season-high with 37 third quarter points, whittling the deficit down to 91-79. Beginning the fourth period on a 12-0 run, the D-Fenders tied the game at 91 and went back and forth with the Charge before permanently taking the lead off of a Mike Taylor three-pointer with 4:25 remaining.

Morris Almond tallied a team-high 25 points, Taylor recorded 23 points and two steals, and Elijah Millsap totaled 22 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals for the D-Fenders. Additionally, Lakers assignee Robert Sacre finished with 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Darius Morris registered nine points, a game-high nine assists and six rebounds in the win. Gary Flowers also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go with eight points and seven boards for the D-Fenders.

The Charge was paced by Antoine Agudio (23 points), Travis Franklin (15 points, 6 rebounds), Jorge Gutierrez (14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals) and Micheal Eric (13 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks).

In a game that featured 11 lead changes and nine ties, the D-Fenders shot 54.9 percent, committed just nine turnovers, handed out 34 assists and scored 68 points in the paint. Meanwhile, the Charge shot 44.8 percent, committed 12 turnovers, dished out 22 assists and finished with 42 points in the paint.

The D-Fenders next travel to Idaho to play the Stampede (NBA Affiliate: Portland Trailblazers) on Friday, Apr. 5 and 6 in their final series of the season. Both contests tip at 6pm PST.
