D-Fenders Outlast Energy In Game 1

DES MOINES, IA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders started the 2012 postseason with a 114-103 wire-to-wire victory over the Iowa Energy at Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday night.

The D-Fenders (1-0) outscored the Energy 33-12 in the first period, extended the lead to as many as 23 points in the second quarter, and entered the half up by 17. Despite a run from the Energy in the second half to get within six points, the D-Fenders managed to find an answer for the second half push en route to a Game 1 win.

Jamario Moon finished with a team-high 25 points (7-11 FG, 5-7 3FG) along with five rebounds, and Malcolm Thomas tallied a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds off the bench for the D-Fenders. Additionally, Elijah Millsap (17 points, 5 rebounds), Otis George (14 points, 11 rebounds), Orien Greene (12 points, 6 assists) and Mardy Collins (12 points [5-7 FG]) all contributed double-digit scoring efforts in the victory.

Iowa (0-1) was paced by Ben Strong, who totaled 27 points and 13 rebounds, along with Moses Ehambe, who dropped in 22 points in the game. Meanwhile, Mike Efevberha scored 15 points, Curtis Stinson pitched in 13 points, and Brandon Ewing handed out a game-high 11 assists to go with seven points in the loss.

Head Coach Eric Musselman's D-Fenders, who concluded the regular season as the league-leader defensive field goal percentage (44.2 FG%), limited the Energy to just 40.7 percent from floor in their opening round matchup. Furthermore, the D-Fenders outscored the Energy 52-32 in points in the paint.
