EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders outdueled the Bakersfield Jam for their second consecutive win, earning a 114-99 victory at Toyota Sports Center on Saturday night. The victory is Los Angeles' 8th over its last 12 contests.
In a game that featured 10 lead changes and 13 ties, the first 24 minutes saw six lead changes and 12 ties as both teams were deadlocked at 49 heading into halftime. However, the D-Fenders (15-19) grabbed control in the third quarter, going on a 20-7 run to hold an 81-69 advantage heading into the final frame. D-Fenders Courtney Fortson (game-high 28 points, 10 assists) scored 13 points and Mike Taylor (15 points, 4 rebounds) added nine points in the final frame, helping propel the team in its second defeat of the Jam this season.
In addition to Fortson and Taylor's efforts, Elijah Millsap (21 points, 7 rebounds), Morris Almond (12 points), Lazar Hayward (10 points), Zach Andrews (10 points) and Jerome Jordan (10 points [4-5 FG]) all tallied in double-figures for Los Angeles. Gary Flowers also scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds (5 offensive rebounds) for the D-Fenders, who won the battle of points in the paint 58-40.
Bakersfield (23-11) was paced by Renaldo Major, who tallied 27 points, and Atlanta Hawks assignee Mike Scott, who registered 25 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Meanwhile, Stephen Dennis pitched in 13 points for the Jam.
The D-Fenders and Jam are set to play again tomorrow, March 3rd, capping off a home-and-home series of games in Bakersfield at 4pm.
