Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League got off to a lackluster start this afternoon at STAPLES Center, dropping their third game in a row, this time to the Idaho Stampede 97-75.
Idaho controlled the opening quarter. Stampede guard Randy Livingston had 8 assists in the quarter, leading to his 15 for the game.
Livingston finished the game with a triple-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with his game-high assist total.
"There wouldn't be any other point guard that I would want on our team. He is the best leader on the floor," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates.
Idaho center John Peter Ramos scored a game-high 20 points, while forward Jeff Graves had 17.
Los Angeles was led by forwards Kevin "Butter" Johnson and Andre Patterson. Johnson put up a team-high 17 points, while Patterson collected a career-high 15 rebounds off the bench.
The D-Fenders were able to pull themselves close by halftime, and only trailed the Stampede by 8, but scored a season-low 11 points in the third quarter.
Los Angeles was outrebounded 47-41 for the game and shot a substandard 38% from the floor. Six Stampede players scored in double digits.
"I thought that they were much tougher on the interior than us. They pounded the glass, and they got the ball inside. That was the main difference," said Los Angeles Head Coach Dan Panaggio.
The series between these Western Conference rivals stands in Idaho's favor at 2-0 and the D-Fenders now sit at 9-8 (.529) overall.
This Friday, January 12, the D-Fenders host the Austin Toros at STAPLES Center, before the Lakers game, with a 3:30pm tip off. Los Angeles beat the Toros twice last month while in Texas, taking the lead in the series 2-0.
Having a Lakers ticket for a STAPLES Center home game is also your ticket to a lower level seat for the D-Fenders. Lakers season ticket holders who attend a D-Fenders home game will receive a special gift, while supplies last, by visiting the Season Ticket Holder Booth on the main concourse at the Figueroa Street Entrance.
On July 31, 2006 the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they had become the first NBA franchise in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Los Angeles D-Fenders play their home games at STAPLES Center pre and post Lakers home games. The Lakers devoted fans were given the opportunity to name the NBA D-League team in an online naming contest.
