D-Fenders Exact Revenge on the Bighorns

RENO, NV - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Reno Bighorns 118-111 at the Reno Events Center on Friday night.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (12-10) and Bighorns (13-11) played to a virtual stalemate, but four offensive rebounds and 10 second chance points helped Los Angeles hold a two-point edge through one period. The D-Fenders started the second frame quickly with a 21-5 run and led by 18 points half way through the second. Despite failing to hold the large advantage, the D-Fenders finished the half leading by six points. In total, the D-Fenders shot 54.2 percent from the field and 45.0 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

The D-Fenders started fast for a second straight quarter and stretched their halftime lead to 11 points in the first four minutes of the third period. However, Los Angeles and Reno ultimately struggled to find consistency, shooting 33.3 percent and 35.3 percent from the field respectively in the frame. The Bighorns managed to tie the game two separate times in the final quarter, but the D-Fenders never trailed and leaned on clutch shooting down the stretch from Terrence Williams to claim their twelfth victory of the season.

Terrence Williams led the D-Fenders with an NBA D-League career-high 39 points. Josh Magette (17 points), Josiah Turner (12 points), Brandon Costner (11 points), James Southerland (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Gideon Gamble (10 points) also finished in double-digits for Los Angeles. Travis Hyman also pitched in eight points and 12 rebounds off of the bench.

Brandon Heath led the way for Reno with 27 points and eight assists. K.C. Rivers (18 points, nine rebounds), Bryan Davis (16 points, eight rebounds), Tyrell Biggs (14 points, seven rebounds), Mickell Gladness (13 points, 10 rebounds), Ra'Shad James (11 points) and DeQuan Jones (10 points, seven rebounds) all finished in double-digits as well for the Bighorns.

Overall, the D-Fenders were out-shot 52.1 to 44.1 from the field and 38.9 to 34.2 from the three-point line. However, Los Angeles forced Reno into 18 turnovers, compared to only seven from the D-Fenders. In addition, the D-Fenders out-scored the Bighorns in three of the four quarters, and never trailed in the second half.

Los Angeles travels back home to take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat affiliate) tomorrow night at 6:30pm, at the Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
