
D-Fenders Dropped by Mad Ants

EL SEGUNDO - The D-Fenders fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 135-128 tonight in El Segundo.
Los Angeles (15-32) was led by Vander Blue, who tied his season-high with 40 points. Roscoe Smith recorded his 31st double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Jamaal Franklin nearly missed a triple-double with 23 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds. Jarvis Varnado tallied 19 points and six rebounds in his first start for the D-Fenders.
Jordan Crawford (33 points) paced the Mad Ants (26-21), while Trey McKinney-Jones also reached the 20-point plateau with 20 points and five rebounds. CJ Fair (19 points, nine rebounds), Matt Bouldin (19 points) and Travis Hyman (13 points, 10 rebounds) all scored in double-figures for Fort Wayne.
Los Angeles outscored Fort Wayne 31-30 in the first quarter, behind 10 points from Smith and nine from Blue. The Mad Ants stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring the D-Fenders 36-26, with McKinney-Jones leading the way with eight points. Blue had 12 points in the quarter for the D-Fenders, who trailed 66-57 at the half.
The third quarter was a stalemate, with both teams tallying 33 points. Blue scored 13 points in the quarter, while Smith had 11 for the D-Fenders. After three, Los Angeles trailed 99-90. The D-Fenders managed to outscore the Mad Ants 38-36 in the fourth quarter, with Franklin tallying 11 points. Crawford scored 10 in the quarter for Fort Wayne, who hung on to win 135-128.
The D-Fenders shot .524 on the night, while the Mad Ants finished at .469. Fort Wayne shot .467 from three-point range, compared to .385 for Los Angeles. The D-Fenders turned the ball over 15 times, compared to just eight for the Mad Ants.
The D-Fenders are home tomorrow to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 6:30pm PT.
