D-Fenders Conquer the Warriors Behind Manny Harris' Franchise

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors 121-106 on Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (17-11) struggled to keep the Warriors (16-12) out of the inside, allowing 16 points in the paint in the frame. However, Los Angeles finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to carry a slim two-point lead into the second period. The D-Fenders were unable to carry their momentum into the second quarter as they shot 33.3 percent from the floor and fell behind by nine points entering halftime. Overall, Los Angeles shot 39.6 percent from the floor and totaled 11 offensive rebounds in the first half.

Los Angeles turned it around in the third quarter and went on a 15-2 run through the first four minutes of the second half. The D-Fenders continued their strong play throughout the frame and totaled 22 points in the paint en route to a seven-point advantage. The man of the night, Manny Harris, scored 21 of his 56 points in the fourth quarter to clinch the 17th victory of the season for the D-Fenders, who now claim a share of first place in the West division.

In his first game back with the team, Manny Harris scored a D-Fenders franchise record 56 points and 16 rebounds to lead Los Angeles. Travis Hyman finished with a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) and James Southerland (14 points, eight rebounds), Josh Magette (11 points) and Gideon Gamble (11 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the D-Fenders.

The Warriors were paced by Cameron Jones (26 points) and Seth Curry (17 points). In addition, Hilton Armstrong (17 points), Dominic McGuire (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Daniel Nwaelele (12 points, seven rebounds) finished in double-digits for Santa Cruz.

The performance from Manny Harris marks the third time this season, second by Harris, that the D-Fenders franchise record for scoring has been broken. Additionally, the D-Fenders set a new season high with 22 offensive rebounds which led to 30 second chance points. In total, Los Angeles held the edge in field goal percentage (45.3-42.7), three-point field goal percentage (43.5-17.9) and rebounds (55-49).

Los Angeles will take on the Santa Cruz Warriors once again on Monday, February 10th, at 7:00pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
