D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (March 12, 2009) - D.C. United announced today the signing of goalkeeper Milos Kocic to a developmental roster spot. A graduate of Loyola College of Maryland, Kocic was selected by the Black-and-Red in the second round (21st overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft on January 15. He will be officially available upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
"We are pleased that Milos is now officially part of our club," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. "He has all of the necessary qualities to be an outstanding goalkeeper in MLS, and he is making very good progress."
During his senior season at Loyola, the 6'4", 200 lbs. netminder averaged a 0.66 goals-against-average and notched 12 shutouts. He also claimed four MAAC Defensive Player of the Week awards on his way to making the First Team All-MAAC. In addition, the Serbian-born goalkeeper was named to the All-North Atlantic Regional Team and earned Second Team All-American honors from the NSCAA.
Born in Leskovac, Serbia, Kocic began his college career at St. John's University in 2005. However, it was not until his sophomore season when he transferred to Loyola, that Kocic saw time on the field, making two appearances. During his junior season in 2007, the goalkeeper started all of the Greyhound's 23 games, playing every single minute and earning 17 shutouts, tying a school record. He claimed the nation's best goals-against-average (0.47) and finished second in the country with a save percentage of 0.889. He was named MAAC Tournament MVP and earned First Team All-MAAC honors.
