Loudoun United FC News Release
WASHINGTON, DC - D.C. United have promoted defender Sami Guediri from their United Soccer League (USL) Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC. Guediri's contract is through the 2022 season with separate option years in 2023 and 2024.
"Sami has been training with us regularly since preseason and has shown his value and quality in various aspects of play," Lucy Rushton, D.C. United General Manager, said "We're pleased to be able to add him to the roster at a pivotal point in the season and look forward to having him available for the rest of the year."
Guediri signed with Loudoun United on Jan. 28, 2022, and has scored two goals in 13 appearances for the Red-and-White this season. He made his debut for the club in the 1-0 win against Indy Eleven on March 13, 2022.
"Sami is another testament to the success of the Pathway 2 Pro Program from Loudoun United to the D.C. United First Team," Stewart Mairs, Loudoun United General Manager, said. "Sami has worked hard since preseason to achieve this and his performances at Loudoun United and while on loan with D.C. United for the last two games have earned him this permanent transfer into MLS. We wish him luck."
He first appeared for D.C. United in their 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the New York Red Bulls on May 11. He was subsequently acquired on loan on May 18 for their home game against New York City FC. Guediri was then acquired on another four-day loan for their match against Orlando City SC, where he started in the 5-3 win at Exploria Stadium on July 4. After an impressive start against Orlando City SC, Guediri was acquired on another four-day loan for D.C. United's match against the Philadelphia Union on July 8. Guediri has appeared in four games across all competitions for the Black-and-Red, starting in three games.
The defender from Florida, started his professional career overseas with German club BW Freisdorf, where he played from 2016-17. He played for German team VfL Alfter in 2017 before returning to the States in 2018 to play for former USL League Two club Sima Águilas in Montverde. Guediri spent the 2019 season with USL League One club Greenville Triumph, making 17 appearances before signing with Fort Lauderdale CF the following year. In the 2020 season, Guediri played all 16 matches (14 starts) and recorded two assists for Inter Miami's USL League One affiliate. In April, the defender joined Inter Miami CF for the 2021 MLS season where he made 10 appearances (two starts) and recorded one assist.
