Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves entered Thursday two games above the .500 but dropped both games to fall back 12-12 on the season. Kingsport (13-12) beat Danville 12-2 in game one and then rallied in the sixth in game two to win 8-5.
Game one saw the D-Braves get knocked off by an offensive onslaught by the Kingsport Mets. Starter Mark Marksberry did not fare well in his first professional start, giving up six runs (five earned) in just 2.2 innings. He allowed four hits and walked three batters while striking out four.
Mets' starter Robert Whalen shut down the Danville offense allowing just three hits in six innings. He was able to hold outfielder Connor Lien hitless snapping his 10 game hitting streak. The only three hits for Danville came from Victor Caratini, Johan Camargo, and MIkey Reynolds. Camargo and Caratini came around to plate the only two D-Braves runs following a pair of fielding errors by the Kingsport defense.
Game two started poorly for Danville as the Mets were able to jump out and get two runs off starter Jorge Montenegro in the first.
Alejandro Piloto cut the lead in half in the second though, driving in Jacob Schrader after Schrader led off the inning with his sixth double of the season.
After Kingsport added a single run in the second, Danville rallied in the third and fourth to retake the lead. Caratini doubled in the third to score Reynolds and then Danville added three in the fourth with the big blow coming on a two out, two run single by shortstop Ronald Luna.
Danville held the lead in the game before a five run sixth inning by Kingsport off Montenegro and reliever Jordan Sechler to put the game away at its final of 8-5.
The offense for Danville was better in game two as all but two starters recorded hits with Reynolds and Piloto each recording multi-hit games.
Danville will turn around Friday for another set of doubleheaders against Kingsport and will look to snap their current three game losing streak. The games are set for a 5:00 p.m. start in Kingsport with game two set to begin thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
