D-Braves Stunned by Twins, Lose 4-0

Danville, VA - The Braves were shutout for the second straight night against the Elizabethton Twins. The Twins 4-0 victory also completed a three game sweep of Danville. Danville had won five games coming into the three game set but were only able to score two runs in three games.
The Twins got off to a very quick start against Dan Jurik. The first four Twins of the game reached base safely. JD Williams got it started when he hit a chopper to Fernando De Los Santos at third base. De Los Santos was unable to field the ball cleanly allowing Williams to reach on the error. Nick Lockwood followed up with a surprise bunt single down the third base line. By the time Jurik got to the ball from the mound it was too late.
Eddie Rosario, who came in batting .444 against the D-Braves this season, doubled to left-center field scoring both runs. Rory Rhodes followed up with an single through the hole between short and third base. Matt Koch grounded into a double play on the very next play which allowed Rosario to score and make it 3-0.
The D-Braves were unable to get much going with their bats after they had two hits in the top of the first. The Braves stranded runners at second and third in that inning. The Braves only had five hits on the night, Brandon Drury and Billy Beckwith each had two.
Jurik settled down as the game progressed but eventually gave up one more in the top of the fifth. A double by Rosario and a single by Rhodes made it 4-0. Rosario finished the series 6-for-9 with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored, and five runs batted in. Jurik was saddled with the loss, his second, after going five innings and giving up four runs, two earned, on nine hits.
The Braves went 1-for-9 on Thursday night with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base. They left a combined 20 runners on base in their two shutouts. The Braves drop to 27-23 and two games back of first place Bluefield.
The team hits the road tomorrow for three games against the Burlington Royals. They will have a day off on Monday and then return home on Tuesday, August 16 to face the Princeton Rays.
