Danville Otterbots News Release

Pulaski, VA-The D-Braves managed to win their third straight game on Tuesday night. JR Graham made his first start of 2011 and got a win to show for it. Danville was able to score ten runs on 12 hits and beat the Mariners 10-2.

As most games do in 2011, Danville jumped out to an early lead. The Braves loaded the bases in the first inning after Nick Ahmed and Kyle Kubitza walked and then Brandon Drury was hit by a pitch. Drury was the first of three beaned batters for the D-Braves tonight. Kurt Fleming and Elmer Reyes were also plunked in the game. Billy Beckwith grounded out to first to score the first Danville run and then Sam Munson got the RBI for the second run on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Pulaski countered the two run first inning for the D-Braves with a run of their own. Pulaski scored due to three errors by the Danville defense. With one out, Frankie Christian hit a ball back at Graham who threw it away and gave Christian second base. Two batters later, Guillermo Pimentel, reached when second baseman, Elmer Reyes, misplayed a ball for a fielding error, then recovered and threw the ball away. The play resulted in a Pulaski run and two errors on Reyes giving Danville three in the one inning.

With their lead cut to one run, Danville fired back with two more runs in the second frame. Kurt Fleming doubled after Reyes was hit by a pitch and Danville had second and third with two outs. Kubitza singled to center allowing both Reyes and Fleming to score giving the D-Braves a comfortable 4-1 lead.

The Braves felt the need for some more insurance though. Danville added another run in the fourth and fifth innings and then three more in the seventh. The team added their tenth run in the ninth inning. The final run came off of Kenny Fleming's first homerun of the season. Fleming took over in centerfield in the bottom of the eighth as a defensive replacement for his brother Kurt.

Graham went five and two-thirds innings only giving up the one earned run. Pulaski managed to score one more run off of Graham in the bottom of the sixth inning before he was replaced by AJ Holland. Graham struck out four on the night while giving up just one walk and three hits. Holland and Dan Jurik both pitched in relief. Holland struck out three in his two and one-third innings. Jurik pitched the bottom of the ninth.

The Braves will attempt a sweep of the Mariners on Wednesday night. The two teams came into the series tied in the standing, but Danville now holds a two game lead over them. Danville is third in the Appalachian League East Division. They are 14-14 on the season.

Danville will return home this Thursday, July 21. The D-Braves will be giving away 1,000 team photos in the homestand opener versus the Burlington Royals.
