Cyclones Play Two Important Home Games This Week

The Pee Dee Cyclones return to the Florence Civic Center ice this week for two home games on Thursday & Saturday. Mark Richards' ‘Clones will be looking to return to the victory column following two home losses last week. The Cyclones are 1-5-1 in their last seven games forcing Coach Mark Richards to make personnel changes (see below). The Cyclones begin the week in fourth place with a record of 8 wins-8 losses- and 2 overtime losses.

Cyclones recent player transactions:

Saturday 12/3: Defensemen Chris Kovalcik & Martin Viazanica traded to Jacksonville for Defenseman Mike Fougere. Fougere has been placed on team suspension for failing to report to Pee Dee.

Saturday 12/3: Forward Bret Peppler signed contract. Peppler played earlier in the season for both the Missouri River Otters (UHL) and Jacksonville Barracudas (SPHL). Forward Ryan Petz signed contract. Petz played in his 501st professional game on Saturday night. Because of his job responsibilities in Columbia, Petz will be available to the team on a limited basis.

Monday 12/5: Forward Chris Seifert traded to Jacksonville for Forward Joel Petkoff. Petkoff played in 17 games for Jacksonville scoring 4 goals & 9 assists for 13 points. Last season, Petkoff split time between Asheville (SPHL), Greenville (ECHL) and Atlantic City (ECHL) scoring 22 goals and 25 assists for 47 points.

Upcoming games & promotions:

Thursday, December 8th: Cyclones vs. Huntsville Havoc @ Florence Civic Center (7:35PM). Second meeting of the year against Huntsville. The Cyclones lead the season series 1-0 following a 7-3 victory against the Havoc on November 17th. Promotion: "Thirsty Thursday": $2.00 draft beer specials & $1.00 soft drink specials. Also: "Student & Military Night": Anyone showing a valid student or military I.D. gets an $8.00 ticket in the 200 or 400 level of the Civic Center.

Saturday, December 10th: Cyclones vs. Fayetteville Fire Antz @ Florence Civic Center (7:35PM). Fifth game of the "Press Box I-95 Challenge Cup Series" with the Fire Antz leading the season series 3-1. Promotion: WBTW TV-13 "Toys for the Territory". Bring a new unwrapped toy and get a $2.00 discount off of any 200 or 400 level ticket at the Florence Civic Center. Also: Saturday's "Super Chuck a Puck" prize is two tickets to any movie at the Swamp Fox Cinemas.

Cyclones Player Notes:

Forward Shaun Aebig continues to lead the Cyclones in scoring with 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points in sixteen games played. Edan Welch is second in scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points in eighteen games. Welch leads the team in goals scored with 12 while Aebig leads the team in assists with 16. Rookie Forward Chris Murphy leads the team in penalty minutes with 99.

Cyclones in the Community

Join Cyclones Head Coach Mark Richards and selected players every Tuesday night at 7:30PM at the Phoenix Bar & Grill in the Thunderbird Hotel on Highway 52 and I-95 for the Cyclones Radio Show on 100.1 FM "The Fan" as a part of the weekly "Press Box PM" radio program with host Emerson "E-Daddy" Phillips.

Sunday, December 11th, the Cyclones will participate in the Johnsonville Christmas Parade which begins at 2:00PM. Monday, December 12th, team members will be at the McLeod Children's Hospital at 2:30PM to distribute some of the 350+ Teddy Bears that were collected at last Saturday's "Teddy Bear Toss" which (by the way) occurred at 13:30 of the second period of the game. Saturday, December 17th, the Cyclones will participate in the Florence City Christmas Parade which begins at 11:00AM.
