Atlantic City, NJ -- The Cincinnati Cyclones claimed a 4-3 win over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in Game 6 of the Northern Conference Finals to force a Game 7 for the right to advance to the 2003 Kelly Cup Finals.
No team in the history of the 15-year ECHL has ever rallied from a 3-games-to-none deficit to win a best-of-seven series.
Cincinnati was backstopped by rookie netminder Peter Hamerlik who finished the night with 28 saves for his third straight win.
The Cyclones grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first period. Defenseman Ryan Gaucher opened the scoring at 3:01 for the Cyclones. Atlantic City's Kevin Colley answered with a power play goal at 4:32 to tie the game at 1-1..
Veteran forward Mike Casselman would give the Cyclones the edge with a power-play goal at 16:35 of the first period.
In the middle frame, Cincinnati extended their lead to 3-1 when captain Nick Bootland picked up his team-leading 9th goal of the post-season at 12:49.
At that point, Atlantic City pulled starting goaltender Matt Yeats in favor of Scott Stirling.
The Bullies responded by getting a goal from Jim Henkel at 14:42 of the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Game 7 will be played on Saturday at Atlantic City's historic Boardwalk Hall with the opening face-off set for 7:35 PM.
