Cyclones Fall to Renegades 5-2

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades scored early and often to down the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-2 on Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Hudson Valley jumped ahead immediately against Brooklyn starter Junior Santos (3-7). In the bottom of the first, Cooper Bowman, Trey Sweeney, and Everson Pereira doubled sequentially, and Pereira came home on an error, to give the Renegades a 3-0 lead.

In the process, Pereira scored his 73rd career run with Hudson Valley, setting a new all-time franchise record in runs scored.

In the top of the second, the Cyclones struck back against Renegades starter Blane Abeyta. Jose Peroza knocked a two-run triple to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Hudson Valley answered in the bottom half of the second on a Pereira RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2. Pereira finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Abeyta lasted four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking four and striking out five while getting no decision.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pat DeMarco launched a towering RBI double to center off Daison Acosta to make it 5-2 Renegades.

In relief, Jhonatan Muñoz (2-1) logged 2.1 hitless innings, Edgar Barclay followed with 1.2 shutout frames and Alex Mauricio shut the door in the ninth, striking out two to earn his sixth save. The Renegades bullpen combined for 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit in the game.

Hudson Valley continues its series with Brooklyn Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Matt Sauer (4-1, 3.08) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the Cyclones counter with RHP Mike Vasil (1-1, 4.38).
