Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
The Cyclones (14-10) had an impressive come from behind victory over the Doubledays (12-12) on Saturday evening, beating Auburn by the score of 3-2, to snap the team's three-game losing streak. Josh Petersen was the offensive catalyst for Brooklyn, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, including driving home the go-ahead run for the Cyclones.
The âClones fell behind early, after the Doubledays scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to put Brooklyn in a 2-0 hole. The Brooklyn bats struggled early in the game, but in the seventh inning the Cyclones broke through in a big way. Jesus Gamero, who finished the night 2-for-3, started the rally with a single and when Caleb Stewart followed with a double, Brooklyn had two men in scoring position with no out, and Josh Petersen - the Cyclones hottest batter - coming to bat. Petersen responded by lacing an RBI single into right field to bring the Cyclones within a run, and when Jonel Pacheco kept the rally going with another RBI single, the Cyclones had clawed back to knot the game at 2-2. In the eighth, the Cyclones rallied again. Joe Holden started the inning with a sharply hit single to left, and after Jon Malo was hit by a pitch, and Caleb Stewart was walked intentionally the bases were loaded for Josh Petersen. Once again, Petersen came through in the clutch, smashing an RBI single into left field to put Brooklyn ahead for good, 3-2.
Eric Brown (1-1) got the win in relief of starter Bobby Parnell. Brown pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three. Robert Paulk, who is in Brooklyn as part of a rehab assignment, pitched the ninth and managed to work his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam, to pick up his first save for the Cyclones since September 1, 2003.
The Cyclones will take on the Doubledays in the middle game of a three game set tomorrow evening at KeySpan Park. Game time is set for 5:00 and the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Sports Bag, compliments of Modell's. Gates open one and a half hours before game time.
